TULIP
MANIA
LEIDEN
Background
Tulip Mania Leiden is a
citizen science project
All citizens from Leiden and the surrounding area are encouraged to research and explore the biodiversity in their immediate vicinity. They are asked to plant tulip bulbs in various places and to compete for the chance of analysis of the soil, so-called metagenomics, in which the tulips have grown. By involving as many people as possible from different neighborhoods, we get as broad a picture as possible of the biodiversity in the different types of soil. Involving everyone in this research creates awareness of the problems surrounding biodiversity and makes everyone want to be part of a possible solution.
